Yakumo Ramen Opens Its First Overseas Branch in Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Yakumo Ramen has officially opened its first overseas branch in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s international journey.

The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including YB Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia; YB Raven Kumar a/l Krishnasamy, Johor EXCO Member and Chairman of the Johor State Unity, Heritage and Culture Committee; Datuk Steven Tan Hui Guan, Chairman of the Japan Graduates’ Association of Malaysia (Japan Branch); and Inauda Kanji, Founder of Yakumo Ramen.

From its beginnings as a small neighbourhood ramen shop in Japan, Yakumo Ramen’s Malaysia branch represents a new chapter for the brand. Housed in a two-storey landed building, the restaurant reflects Yakumo’s growth while remaining faithful to its roots.

Recognised by the Michelin Guide with the Bib Gourmand distinction for nine consecutive years, Yakumo Ramen is known for its dedication to balance, craftsmanship, and everyday excellence. The Malaysia opening brings this philosophy beyond Japan for the first time, while maintaining the same respect for technique, ingredients, and authenticity.

The launch of the Johor Bahru, Malaysia branch signifies not only Yakumo Ramen’s first step overseas, but also a long-term commitment to sharing authentic Japanese ramen culture while engaging meaningfully with the local dining landscape.
